Frequently asked questions.

+ Chef Notepad is very affordable. Are there any hidden costs?

There are no hidden costs. Chef Notepad has been designed especially for chefs to make the restaurant industry better. We designed Chef Notepad to simplify every kitchen task and to make a chef’s life easier.

+ Why should I use Chef Notepad?

Calculating a recipe is actually very complex. Think of wastage, sub-recipes, different measurements, seasonality, and updating prices. Calculating a recipe can be tricky and complicated, but it doesn’t mean you should use a complicated method to solve it.

Margins are often so thin in the food industry that it’s critical to stay on top of your food costs. Chef Notepad helps you to stay on top of all of this and we are always looking to improve features and evolve Chef Notepad to suit any kitchen.

+ I can't find Chef Notepad on the App store?

Chef Notepad does not have an app, but can still be used from any device. You can simply visit our website and login from anywhere to easily access and manage your recipes.

To add the Chef Notepad icon on the home screen of your phone for quick access simply follow these instructions.

Google Chrome: Go to your internet browser and log in to your account. Then drop down the menu by tapping the three-dot icon at the top right-hand corner of the screen. Select Add to Home screen.

Safari: Go to your internet browser and log in to your account. Tap the Share icon (the square with an arrow pointing out of it) at the bottom of the screen. Scroll down to the list of actions and tap Add to Home Screen. (If you don't see the action, scroll to the bottom and tap Edit Actions, then tap Add next to the Add to Home Screen action. After that, you'll be able to select it from the Share Sheet.)

+ Can you enter our food invoices to the program for us?

Chef Notepad is a user-friendly recipe calculator but similar to using a program like Excel, entering all your ingredients to set it up takes time. This is why we can enter all your ingredients into the Chef Notepad for you. We include wastage & different measurements (Based on general knowledge for each ingredient), suppliers and sort your recipes into different categories.

We also simplify wording from invoices (eg. "R/W AV800G HALOUMI CHEESE CHEFS SIZE PANDELYSSI" to "Haloumi cheese") and guarantee 100% privacy and confidentiality with all information you share with our experienced Team.

+ Are my recipes secure and confidential?

Your information is private and confidential and can only be accessed by you. If you have an issue in your account and you want us to browse to fix it, we will ask you for authorisation for our programmers to work on it.

Chef Notepad keeps your information secure with daily backups and firewalls in place so that all of your data is safe and accessible at all times.

+ Can you create an account from anywhere in the world?

Yes, Chef Notepad has been designed in Australia but can be purchased in any country. Please note that the prices on the website are in AUD but will automatically be converted to your currency. We are proud to say that we support businesses like restaurants, bakeries, food trucks and pizzerias, in over 15 different countries.

+ When will the “purchase order” feature be available?

We are working very hard on the purchase order feature for Chef Notepad. We are running a global survey and testing to get feedback on the way chefs create a purchase order to ensure we deliver a fusion of the best method that every kitchen can use. Keeping it simple and efficient is our challenge but our main priority. To stay up to date, we recommend joining our newsletter to see when we release this new feature.

+ How does sharing a recipe work?

With Chef Notepad, you can share your recipes with with anyone. Simply navigate to the recipe you'd like to share, and under 'Actions', select 'Share'. You will be given a link to the recipe which you can then share with whoever you'd like, regardless of whether they have a Chef Notepad account or not.

+ Can you export a recipe as a PDF?

Yes, exporting a recipe is simple. When you click the ‘Print’ button, you will see an option to save the document as a PDF. This is great for when you want to create a recipe book on “Dropbox” or “Books”, for example.

+ Can you use the same account for multiple venues?

While it is possible to use one account across different venues, we do not recommend it as all suppliers and price lists must be the same.

If you would like chefs from each restaurant to be active on the account, we would recommend opening one account per restaurant. It makes it easier to upload and manage their own recipes and price lists without any confusion. Having an account per restaurant will also give you power to view reporting on each restaurant more cleanly. For example, you will be able to compare prices and costs and share recipes between restaurants to save costs.
